This is after all National Hot Dog Month. And here you thought the government was wasting your tax dollars with meaningless proclamations about bogus holidays – National Hot Dog Month is the essence of our nation. As our way of contributing toward making National Hot Dog Month more meaningful The Inquirer has posted a poll allowing you to vote on your favorite hot dog among current athletes. Who will win is up to all of you naturally but here’s a list of personal favorites.

We do not use the general term ?dog flu? because it could refer to any flu-like illness in dogs due to various causes. Rather canine influenza is a specific disease caused by a particular subtype H3N8 of the influenza A virus.

Frank facts Here is some hot dog trivia to chew on this Fourth of July: According to a 1998 national poll conducted by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council 63 percent of fans listed hot dogs as the ballpark food they couldn’t live without followed by peanuts pizza cotton candy and Cracker Jack. In the same survey Babe Ruth was voted most likely to win a hot dog-eating contest among current and former players. The Babe won with 42 percent of the vote with John Kruk (17 percent) and Tommy Lasorda (15 percent) finishing second and third. Prince Fielder a vegetarian took 8 percent of the vote.
