tmpl –> Veterinarians had to amputate the right front leg of Gibson a harlequin Great Dane. He is certified as the world’s tallest dog — at 42. 2 inches — by the Guinness Book of World Records. Gibson was recuperating this week at his home in Grass Valley a Gold Rush-era town about 60 miles east of Sacramento in the Sierra foothills. His owner Sandy Hall says well-wishers from around the world have been calling to see how he’s doing. She says Gibson will undergo chemotherapy.

A conviction would be the third strike for Alex Castro who could spend the rest of his life in prison for killing 10-year-old Copper. Castro 48 took the stand in his own defense this week. He denied killing the dog but said he had moved Copper’s body four times after finding him dead near the trailer he shared with Joanie Gonzalez at the Main Street Mobile Home and RV Park in Milpitas next to the oh La LodgeThose moves corresponded with areas where Copper’s blood was found although Castro said he moved the dog’s body because he couldn’t decide how to tell Gonzalez her dog was dead and “didn’t want to see her cry. “Not so said Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Kevin Smith. “You knew there was blood all over the place so you had to come up with a version of events” to account for the blood Smith said. Smith said Castro told the officers who interviewed him he had no idea what happened to the dog “that he must have gotten hit by a car. ” The prosecutor asked “did you lie to the police?” Castro responded: “I guess I did.
