The Grand Rapids Press reports that 9-year-old American bulldog Brittney was euthanized Tuesday at an animal hospital. wner Scott Seymore said Brittney woke him up early Saturday when a fire started in his home in Grand Rapids. The fire came two weeks after a veterinarian discovered the dog had several cancerous tumors. The vet said the dog might not survive surgery and Seymore believed chemotherapy would be too hard on Brittney. He decided to let Brittney live with medication for pain. But since the fire Brittney’s growing misery changed his mind. Seymore says it was “really depressing.

The girl had been found in a filthy apartment living with relatives but also large numbers of cats and dogs with whom she appeared more comfortable police in the Eastern Siberian city of Chita said in a statement. Never allowed outdoors the girl had not learnt to speak but instead tried to communicate by barking. When discovered by child protection officers “the unwashed girl was dressed in filthy clothes” and “threw herself at people like a little dog. “”In all these years the girl managed to master the animal language only” the statement said adding that the girl could understand Russian while not speaking it.

The officer who has not been named was attending a training exercise May 5 when he left the animal unattended for about three hours and 15 minutes inside his personal vehicle police said. The dog was brought to the Bay Area Veterinary Emergency Clinic San Leandro where it died.
