The disclosure that Trouble was the largest named beneficiary in the will prompted death threats against the dog. (The judge also negotiated a $6 million settlement with two of Mrs. Helmsley’s grandchildren who were explicitly left out of her will. )The grants on Tuesday represented a fraction of the estate.

50 dogs euthanized as parvo sweeps through shelter

—Dozens of dogs at the Inland Valley Humane Society shelter have been euthanized because of an outbreak of the deadly parvovirus at the Pomona kennel. About 50 puppies and small dogs infected with parvovirus have been put down. Shelter animal services supervisor Brian Sampson says canine parvovirus is airborne and easily passed from dog to dog. Small dogs and puppies are most vulnerable. The shelter serves 16 cities east of Los Angeles including Glendora Walnut La Verne and Covina.
