New York Daily News
or any Portuguese Water Dog By Leah Chernikoff and Nicole Lyn Pesce Wednesday April 15th 2009 4:00 AM Forget running the free world – the First Family now has its hands full caring for a Portuguese water pup. Local breeders have some advice for owners both presidential and otherwise on rearing this playful pooch. DN’T SELF-TRAIN – “They are wonderful family dogs when trained but they don’t come like Lassie” says. “You should have someone teaching you how to train the puppy appropriately to avoid bad habits and learn how to get along with other people and other dogs. “LEAVE STUFF N THE CUNTER – Warning: Portuguese water dogs (sometimes known as PWDs) jump on counters.

A tube or hair dryer blows air – sometimes hot – into a drying cage or crate. Although many groomers use them they are controversial. At least a half-dozen dogs nationwide have reportedly died in them. Experts say small short-haired dogs or those with short snouts – which make it harder to breathe – shouldn’t be put in a drying cage or should be closely monitored. Bruckner said he was dumbfounded. “Why would anyone think it was all right to blow hot air at high speeds on a short-snouted dog?” he said. He sued the groomer and was awarded $1000 out of court in January.

Coachella preview: Dr. Dog
Los Angeles Times
DogWhy all those Beatles comparisons may not be too far off the mark: The west Philadelphia-based quintet Dr. Dog may be the new masters of the three- to five-minute pop song in the "Abbey Road"  tradition but it?s more ?She Came In Through the Bathroom Window? than ?Love Me Do. ? Since 2001 or thereabouts songwriters Scott McMicken and Toby Leaman have carved out a careful niche of the low-fi pop landscape with rich harmonies (think the Beach Boys the Band) and rattling guitars that buzz nicely alongside organs sleigh bells tambourines and yes bass lines that seem mined from the Höfner of a certain Liverpudlian. Last year?s album "Easy Beat" expanded on this formula with punchier songs such as ?Uncovering the ld? and ?The Breeze? that moved away from tendencies to fuzz off into the stratosphere.
