Navratilova has had about eight canine friends. The toughness needed for winning 167 WTA tour singles titles and living in the media spotlight created its challenges but the 52-year-old has a soft spot for the animals. A lot of the dogs she owns are strays.

fficials took Paulette Evans? dog to the local SPCA last summer when it escaped and a neighbor called authorities. She was charged with keeping a vicious dog and related crimes which were dropped when the dog died. The 54-year-old and her veterinarian say SPCA officials misidentified the dog as a banned breed. Evans also questions the SPCA?s finding that the dog died of a virus for which it was vaccinated. Her lawsuit in Hamilton County seeks $25000 in damages.

Another horse and a miniature donkey in the barnwere able to escape. LaPorte County Animal control director Jane Bernard says aneighbor’s pit bull was confiscated and will be euthanized. She isinvestigating whether a second dog was involved in the attack. Catalano says he followed bloody paw prints from the barn to theneighbor’s home and found the dog covered in dried blood.

The 2-year-old Great Dane was chosen Monday as a spokesdog for. The company says Winston was one of 100 finalists and was thefavorite in an online voting contest called Make a Milk-BoneMoment. Winston is owned by Melisa and Matt Ruppert of Kronenwetter.
