While their owners look on Malone puts the dogs through their paces judging the dog’s reactions to three sheep and whether the dogs are good at following commands. The rake that Malone holds is used as a directional device to maneuver the dogs. When humans say they “Work like a dog” they mean that they are working very hard. Most dogs might not work but they spend plenty of time lounging on couches chasing cats playing with squeaky toys and barking at postal employees.

MALAYSIA — Malaysia’s plan to use dogs to sniff out pirated DVDs suffered a setback after one of two Labradors trained for the task died of an unknown cause officials said Monday. Authorities were investigating the cause of death but did not suspect foul play said Mohamad Roslan Mahayuddin an official in the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. “We are quite shocked” he said. Manny a year-old male died May 31. It was trained in Ireland with another Labrador Paddy to sniff out a chemical used in manufacturing DVDs.

“) I never know exactly what to say to this. I am biased of course being a Pit bull owner and it’s true that Lorna is exceptionally sweet-tempered and well-behaved. But I also know that Pit bulls are high on the list of dogs known to have seriously injured or killed human beings… In the case of Pit bulls which are not a single breed the problem is one of category. How do we succinctly and accurately define a Pit bull-type dog? Is the definition based on looks alone? Or should we be consulting some other set of criteria entirely? And is a cross between an American Staffordshire terrier and a Boxer (as The Doone appears to be) more of a “Pit bull-type” dog or a Boxer-type dog? Yesterday the Dutch government announced that it will.

Owners of banned dogs get reprieve

As part of the scheme Dogs Trust Ireland is offering to neuter spay and micro-chip dogs which fall under the 10 restricted breeds list banned from City Council housing since July last year. Senior executive officer of the Housing and Residential Services department Vincent Healy said the council acknowledged that a number of tenants were responsible dog owners and therefore would be allowed to keep their dogs provided they agreed to have them micro-chipped and neutered or spayed. However tenants who persist in illegally keeping restricted breeds could face eviction. Dogs Trust Ireland has arranged with a number of veterinary practices around Dublin to carry out the service at no cost to the City Council.
