THE RIGHT THING Barking dogs needn’t be tolerated
Columbus Dispatch – Jun 8, 2008
IMG_06-08-08_E10_K4AA7LS. ptr div –> “I know it’s spring when the dog calls start” said Bill Hedrick an assistant city prosecutor for Columbus. Residents call his office in the wee hours of the morning — “almost in tears” — and leave voice-mail messages saying “Listen to this” followed by the sound of neighbors’ dogs barking incessantly. I spoke to Hedrick after a Columbus reader himself a dog owner e-mailed to tell me that every time a particular neighbor leaves her house she leaves her dogs on her sun porch to allow them access to the backyard. “They bark at every moving thing when the owner is not home” my reader writes. After having had his fill of the noise one weekend my reader went next door to talk to the owner.

Thanks to the Thailand Rescue Dog Association (Thai RDA) these three dogs recently took part in the first “K9″ Search and Rescue Rally 2008 and have become new dogs after being trained as rescue dogs ready to search for and rescue disaster victims. The two-day rally was held at the Rescue Dog Training Centre in Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima province. Many veteran dog handlers both Thai and foreign also joined the event. According to Suthikiet Sopanik a director of the General Chatichai Choonhavan Foundation that started the Thai RDA scheme the core objectives are to allow dogs that have already undergone the rescue training courses held regularly in Bangkok to practise their skills during these field trips and enjoy several other activities.
Dog cruelty charges that shocked Bendigo
The Age – Jun 8, 2008
IRISH wolfhounds are big dogs with a scary name but they’re no good as watchdogs: too sweet tempered. They don’t live long — genetics being their usual downfall not murder. But in the past year five wolfhounds from central Victoria were allegedly stolen from their homes and two of them subjected to murderous cruelty. n Christmas Day at Lake Eppalock south-east of Bendigo one of the missing wolfhounds was found strangled under its own weight — hung from a tree in a “good boy” sitting-up position back legs on the ground front paws in the air.
WA man severely bitten by dogs
Seattle Times – Jun 8, 2008
— Hoquiam police say a 33-year-old man was mauled by three dogs at a neighbor’s house and had to be taken to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center for treatment of severe injuries. Steve Fretts says Chris Cummings’ nose was almost torn off in the Saturday afternoon pack attack at the home. Fretts says Cummings went to the house where he regularly mows the lawn and entered a gated area of the yard. He knocked on the door to schedule a time to do yard work but the residents weren’t home.
