More dogs needed for UC Davis blood bank
Sacramento Bee – Apr 23, 2008
23 2008 It’s not only bloodhounds that are needed at the University of California Davis veterinary blood bank. Any dog might be a suitable blood-bank donor if it is 1 to 8 years old weighs at least 55 pounds and has never been pregnant. The blood bank collects and stores dog blood for transfusion to treat all kinds of conditions in dogs including surgical complications. Since the new doggie blood bank opened in February officials have screened 78 dogs and enrolled 18 as donors. That’s not enough so the vet blood bank is putting the call out for more owners to consider enrolling their dogs.

Pint of the Week: Sun Dog Amber Wheat Ale St. Louis
San Diego Union Tribune – Apr 23, 2008
gif>)FEAR N BEER: Should megabrewers be encouraged to join the craft beer party? If Anheuser-Busch Miller and Coors produce more subtle and flavorful products than their flagship lagers will this strengthen the microbrew movement or – due to the pernicious powers of megamarketing – destroy it?ptimists and I'm part of this camp insist the former is most likely. Anheuser-Busch's spring seasonal ale isn't going to wow hard-core beer geeks. They will continue to buy authentic micros. But Sun Dog may encourage Bud fans to explore outside their fizzy yellow cocoon. LIGHTEN UP: As amber ales go Sun Dog is on the light side.

Miller’s ‘hot dog stand’ concept goes ‘Creative’…
San Jose Mercury News – Apr 23, 2008
Contractors gofers and petunia-shopping grandmas hungry for something quick satisfying and attractive agree: The food from the hot dog stand in front of the Campbell Home Depot is it. “Hot dog stand” doesn’t really describe the eatery. Since last December it’s evolved under the constructive hand of owner Mary Miller from a lunch wagon look-alike to today’s substantial Creative Concepts Cafe the result of a $200000 investment in three modular steel rooms complete with a walk-in refrigerator commercial grills and a restaurant-grade confection oven.
