A lot of people don’t. Romeo is the 4-year-old chow mix who was found standing vigil over the corpse of his female companion after she was hit and killed Sept. 11 in the middle of Chambers Road. The two had been spotted hanging out and playing together in northeast Denver the previous two days. The sad tale of Romeo and his now-gone “Juliet” as the papers dubbed her captured the hearts of animal lovers who literally lined up back then to adopt the dog. Fast-forward nearly five months.

The woman thought to be aged between 25 and 35 was bitten on the forearm when she tried to pat the dog which was alongside its police handler at Manuka val police said. ACT Policing is using the incident to warn people to be wary of the highly-trained canines and not to view them as friendly pets. "She approached the dog from behind whilst the dog was seated on the hill and attempted to pat the animal” a police spokesman said.

January 30 2008Updated 10:34 a. January 30 2008Love them or hate them prairie dogs are essential to the plains ecosystem and on Saturday they’ll have their own day at the Denver Zoo. While most of the nation celebrates Punxsutawney Phil and Groundhog Day the Denver Zoo will give visitors a nose-to-whisker look at Phil’s distant cousin the prairie dog. The Prairie Dog Coalition helped the Denver Zoo set up activity stations and live prairie dog demonstrations. A Plains Indian Tribe will perform traditional dances during the event which will run from noon until 4 p.

The new requirements would apply to kennel operators who keep more than 20 female dogs for breeding purposes. Among other things commercial breeders would be required to have a valid business license cooperate with inspections by animal control officers have an approved fire safety plan and keep no more than 50 adult dogs on the premises. perators also would have to maintain accurate veterinary records for a five-year period. Violators would face a misdemeanor charge that carries a maximum penalty of 12 months in jail.
