The boy whose name the police would not release was transported to Landmark Medical Hospital in Woonsocket with bite marks on his elbow and buttocks. He was treated and released that night. Patrolman Daniel Lamoureaux the officer who shot the dog was uninjured. The dog’s owner James Marsland 22 of Boyle Avenue was a neighbor of the boy’s family.

Sathyamangalam is a thickly populated municipality and on every street one can see five to six stray dogs. Milk and newspaper vendors are the targets of the stray dogs. These vendors are carrying long sticks with them to chase away the stray dogs. Even those who go for a morning walk are now afraid to use certain roads and streets.

Rookie a black and white border collie is thought to have died within hours of being left in the back of a departmental station wagon in March this year at the John Morony Corrective Services facility near Windsor. The dog which died of heat stroke was not discovered until five days later. In Windsor Local Court today Magistrate Glenn Bartley convicted Joshua Peterson 41 of one count of aggravated animal cruelty. The case was initiated by the RSPCA and its chief inspector David ‘Shannessy today welcomed the court outcome.
