According to British tabloid TheSun the man with a Hitler obsessiontaught his dog to lift its paw sharply into the air when it heard the words”Heil Hitler” Ha’aretzonline reported. The man named “Ronald T” bythe tabloid called his dog “Adolf” and planned to put the pet to “sleep” to markthe anniversary of Hitler’s suicide in 1945. The former car salesman wasreportedly caught after he boasted of the trick to the police. The dog has now been placed inan animal shelter where staff is training it to raise his paw to shake handsrather than perform a Nazi salute.

The Wolong giant panda breeding centre plans to have four pandas raised in captivity live with a specially trained police dog or other animals the Chengdu Daily quoted reserve officials as saying. The officials could not be reached for comment. The pandas would learn how to protect themselves by observing the dog increasing their chances of survival when they were eventually released into the mountainous wilds of the far western province of Sichuan. The world's first artificially bred panda to be released a 5-year-old male named Xiang Xiang was found dead in the snow early this year after less than 12 months out of captivity.

AS New Year celebrations approach guide dog and other assistance dog owners are becoming increasingly worried about the safety of their dogs many of whom find the loud bangs associated with fireworks too much to bear. Assistance Dogs UK a coalition of the charities Guide Dogs Canine Partners Dogs for the Disabled Hearing Dogs and Support Dogs is encouraging readers to attend fully-organised displays on New Year’s Eve or alternatively to ensure that fireworks are let off well away from residential areas. Sadly some assistance dogs that have been severely affected by the sound of fireworks have to take medication which stops them working for a while. The symptoms are shaking quivering nervousness and cowering ? a kind of canine shellshock so severe that dogs have to be sedated for several days. In the more severe cases dogs become so traumatised they are forced into early retirement as they are unable to cope with everyday noises such as train doors slamming or the sound of a car backfiring.

Dodge County Humane Society Needs Help Caring For 18 Dogs
WISC – Dec 24, 2007
– The Dodge County Humane Society is scrambling for donations after a local dog owner died and left 18 dogs that the owner’s husband was unable to care for. The man contacted the sheriff’s department which called the humane society. Shelter director Kimberly Waugus said the shelter has kennels for 10 dogs but now has 20 dogs. Waugus said that the shelter is seeking donations of blankets and dog food as well as volunteers who can take care of a dog for a week. The dog owner lived in Fox Lake which isn’t usually covered by the Dodge County facility but the shelter agreed to take the dogs due to the situation’s urgency.
