comSummer’s certainly the time for dining al fresco although it need not be at a fancy cafe table or on a linen picnic blanket. Indeed some of the season’s finest offerings can be eaten out of hand: a hot dog and an ice-cream cone. Food snobs put those noses back down: The latest offerings in both these worlds are increasingly upscale organic and lovingly hand-crafted. Americans eat almost $2 billion worth of hot dogs a year. However in the past four years sales of packaged organic hot dogs have increased sharply.

Coastguard bitten by rescued dog

Gary Coles was bitten by Scrappy a Jack Russell after the animal became stuck on cliffs at Littleham Cove Sandy Bay near Exmouth. The dog was eventually coaxed back up the cliff to safety. Now coastguards are asking dog owners to keep their animals on leads when walking near cliffs. The warning comes after a poodle named Freya also had to be rescued after falling 30ft (9m) down cliffs nearby on Tuesday night.

According to spread bettors IG Index the Dow Jones Industrial Average is expected to open down 49 points at 12979. Separately S&P 500 futures were down 6.
